8.1. Definition. Classification of obstetric hemorrhage
In Russia, obstetric hemorrhage is the most common cause of maternal mortality among direct obstetric causes, despite the fact that they can be controlled. Proper and timely assistance can significantly increase the chances for successful maternal and fetal outcome.
Definition. Obstetric hemorrhage (OH) is bleeding from the uterus and genital tract due to abnormal course of pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period.
Classification
1. Obstetric hemorrhage in pregnancy and labor
1.1. Placenta previa.
1.2. Abruption of placenta.
2. Hemorrhage in placental and postpartum period
2.1. Uterine hypotony and atony.
2.2. Retained part of placenta in the uterus.
2.3. Incomplete separation of placenta (partial or complete morbidly adherent placenta).
2.4. Placenta accreta (false or true).
2.5. Congenital or acquired hemostatic disorders.
3. Postpartum hemorrhage
3.1. Early postpartum hemorrhage (in the first 2-4 hours after delivery)
3.2. Late postpartum hemorrhage.
