The work instructional program of the subject matter (discipline) "Phthi-siatry" is developed on the basis of the standard (approximate) instructional program and the state educational standard of the III generation.
9.1. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
?PHTHISIATRY?
The aim of teaching the "Phthisiatry" course is considered to be the mastering of modern basic theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of phthisiatry (science about tuberculosis) at medical students.
Each graduate of medical faculty is expected to know the diagnostics principles of tuberculosis and methods of its treatment. Irrespective of the chosen medical specialty, he/she is obliged to timely suspect tuberculosis in the patient, to carry out correct diagnostics and to send the patient to the antituber-culosis specialized institution.
9.2. THE LAYOUT OF ?PHTHISIATRY? COURSE
IN THE STRUCTURE OF THE GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ?MEDICAL CARE?
Phthisiatry is the clinical discipline intended for the solution of tasks of primary investigation of the patient with pulmonary tuberculosis, providing the preliminary diagnosis and primary emergency help in tuberculosis patients (with lung hemorrhage, spontaneous pheumothorax, asphyxia, acute pulmonary and heart failure, carrying out antitubercular medical treatment. The course comprises 180 study hrs (5 test units/credits).
It includes 108 hrs classroom and 72 hrs independent work.
Mastering of the discipline "Phthisiatry" requires preliminary acquisition by students of fundamentals of normal anatomy, biology, biochemistry, mi-
crobiology, immunology, physiology, pathological anatomy, propedeutics of internal diseases, genetics, clinical pharmacology, radiology bases. Phthisiatry is the basis for general professional disciplines, such as hospital and polyclinic therapy, general surgery.
